Stats From Post 2 For December 2008

(Madisonville, KY) - For the month of December 2008, Post 2 reports the following activity:

  • Arrested 43 Drunken Drivers
  • Issued a Total of 1,479 Citations
  • Issued 569 Speeding Citations
  • Issued 123 Seatbelt Citations
  • Issued 8 Child Restraint Citations
  • Issued 717 Courtesy Notices
  • Investigated 140 Crashes
  • Assisted 269 Stranded Motorists
  • Answered 1,116 Calls For Service
  • Opened 67 Criminal Cases
  • Made 120 Criminal Arrests

**There were a total of four (4) fatal crashes reported in the Post 2 District in December 2008. One of the crashes occurred in November; however, the victim did not pass away until December. Three of the crashes occurred in Christian County and one occurred in Hopkins County. Two victims were wearing seat belts, one victim was not wearing a seat belt and one victim was not wearing a helmet.

Through December 31, 2008, thirty-six (36) people have been killed in thirty-one (31) crashes in the Post 2 District. Twenty-three (23) victims were not wearing seat belts, eight (8) victims were wearing seat belts, four (4) victims were not wearing a helmet and the seat belt status of one (1) victim is unknown. Six (6) fatality crashes have involved the suspected use of alcohol.

Through December 31, 2007, forty-five (45) people had been killed in forty-four (44) crashes in the Post 2 District.

Citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free at 1-800-222-5555 (in the state of Kentucky only, does not work out of state). Callers will remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel and license number if possible.

Throughout the month, troopers from the Madisonville Kentucky State Police Post will conduct traffic safety checkpoints in the Post 2 District. At these checkpoints, troopers will be targeting impaired drivers, checking for properly restrained adults and children and observing for any other safety violations. **These statistics are still preliminary as KSP waits for all local law enforcement agencies throughout the state to report any crashes and fatalities that may have occurred in their areas.
