KSP K-9 Locates Suspect After Two Hour Track

An image of Jeremy Murphy, click here to enlarge in a new window(Eddyville, Ky) -- A Todd County man was pursued on foot by police for over two hours before eventually being located in a barn in Lyon County. At approximately 9:18 AM, Trooper David Archer stopped to check a stranded motorist on Interstate 24 near the 35 mile marker. The driver was standing outside of the vehicle when the trooper made contact. The driver was identified as 28-year-old, Jeremy Murphy of Trenton, KY. Mr. Murphy stated to Trooper Archer that he did not have a driver's license. When asked to empty the contents of his pockets, Murphy produced several baggies of what was believed to be illegal drugs. Mr. Murphy dropped the baggies and fled from the area running east along Interstate 24. Trooper Archer immediately deployed his K-9 and began a track on Mr. Murphy. Additional troopers, CVE officers, and Lyon County deputies quickly arrived in the area to assist in the search. Officers tracked Mr. Murphy east through open fields and wooded areas for more than two hours. At approximately 11:30 AM, a Kentucky State Police K-9 "Rex" tracked Mr. Murphy to a barn located off of Poplar Creek Road near Kuttawa. Mr. Murphy was located inside of the barn and taken into custody. He was transported to the Caldwell County E.R. for minor injuries resulting from the chase. Jeremy Murphy is charged with the following:

  1. Fleeing and Evading Police on Foot
  2. Burglary 3rd Degree
  3. Possession of a Controlled Substance
  4. (2) counts of Resisting Arrest

Mr. Murphy was also served with multiple warrants originating out of Todd County. The 18 total charges carried a total cash bond of over $225,000. Charges included drug and traffic offenses. A bond has not been set on today's charges. Mr. Murphy will be lodged in the Caldwell County Detention Center. The investigation is continuing by Trooper David Archer and Trooper T.J. Williams with the Kentucky State Police. KSP was assisted by Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, the Lyon County Sheriff's Office, and Lyon Co. EMS.
