Drunk Driving: Over the Limit, Under Arrest Kicks Off

(Hickory, Ky) -- Today (12/16/09) marks the beginning of the "Drunk Driving: Over the Limit, Under Arrest" highway safety initiative. This statewide enforcement period will combine high visibility enforcement strategies and media events to emphasize highway safety across the Commonwealth. Kentucky State Police want to remind all drivers to do their part in keeping Kentucky's roadways a safe place to travel. The enforcement period will run through the Christmas holiday and end on January 3rd, 2010. State Troopers will strictly enforce speed and seatbelt laws with a zero tolerance approach to drunk drivers. Throughout this mobilization period, Kentucky State Police will conduct traffic safety checkpoints and saturated patrols across the entire 11-county Post One district. In addition state maintained roadways, troopers will aggressively patrol county and secondary roadways. It is the goal of Kentucky State Police to reduce fatal and injury collisions this holiday. Motorist can do their part to keep Kentucky's highways safe by reporting suspected drunk and erratic drivers to Kentucky State Police at 1-800-222-5555 (in the state of Kentucky only, does not work out of state).
