(Hickory, Ky) - Kentucky State Police announce an arrest and charges relating to the nearly sixteen-month old arson investigation of the Carlisle County Courthouse. On Thursday afternoon, a Kentucky State Police detective presented evidence to a Carlisle County Grand Jury relating to the investigation. Shortly after the investigator's testimony, the grand jury returned indictments on Jeremy Ellis, 20, of Bardwell. Mr. Ellis is charged with the following offenses: Arson 2nd Degree, Burglary 1st Degree, and Tampering with Physical Evidence (2 Counts). Arson 2nd Degree and Burglary 1st Degree are each class B felonies which are each punishable by up to 20 years in the state penitentiary. Tampering with Physical Evidence is a class D felony.
The arrest of Mr. Ellis comes after additional evidence was collected connecting him to the arson of the Carlisle County Courthouse, which burned to the ground on December 26th, 2007. Indictments have been served on Mr. Ellis today at the Fulton County Detention Center, where he is currently being held on unrelated charges.
