Criminal Activity Awareness
Date of News Release: 02/02/2009
(Hickory, KY) - The winter weather disaster of 2009 has brought about many changes in everyone's daily routine. For many, food, water, and heat have been in short supply. The Kentucky State Police understand the needs for each individual that has experienced these hardships. However, these hardships are not an excuse for criminal acts. The Kentucky State Police, Kentucky National Guard, and local law enforcement have seen a slight rise in theft and other property crimes over the previous several days. State and federal emergency personnel are working diligently to see that all people get the supplies that they need. The Kentucky State Police are committed to public safety and the protection of personal property. Those who choose to engage in criminal activity during the disaster will be subject to the same penalties and procedures as always.
The Kentucky State Police, Kentucky National Guard, and local law enforcement ask the public to be aware of any criminal activity that could be taking place in their community. Many citizens have not returned to their home at this time. For this reason, neighbors should keep a watchful eye on their homes while they are away. If anyone has any information on criminal activity that has taken place during this natural disaster, please contact your local authorities or the Kentucky State Police at 1-800-222-5555 (in the state of Kentucky only, does not work out of state).
