Double Fatality Collision on KY 1290 in Ballard County

(Mayfield, KY) - Two people were killed in a single vehicle collision which occurred this morning (01/06/2009) in Ballard County. At approximately 8:30 AM, Kentucky State Police responded to a single vehicle collision/fire on KY 1290 (Slater Road) in Ballard County. Upon police and fire personnel arrival, the Chevrolet SUV was fully engulfed in flames. After extinguishing the fire, an adult and child were found deceased in the passenger compartment.

Preliminary investigation by Kentucky State Police revealed that the vehicle had been traveling east on KY 1290. For reasons unknown, the vehicle traveled off of the right side of the roadway and struck a tree. The vehicle caught fire immediately following the collision. The names of the deceased are being withheld at this time due to positive identification and notification of family. KSP was assisted at the scene by the Ballard County Sheriff's Office, Ballard County EMS, and Ballard County Fire and Rescue. The investigation is continuing by Trooper First Class Clint Davis of the Kentucky State Police.
