Date of News Release: 06/02/2009

(Henderson, Ky.) -- Jeffery Smith was traveling North on US 41A driving a 1988 Ford Mustang. Mr. Smith stated he was texting when he looked up and saw an animal in the roadway. Mr. Smith swerved to miss the animal leaving the east side of the roadway causing him to lose control of his vehicle. Mr. Smith then struck a Kenergy utility pole head on causing the pole to break in half and the guide wires to fall across the roadway. mr. Smith exited the vehicle with a bloody nose and called 911.

Rebecca Logsdon was traveling South on US 41A driving a 1999 Chevy Astro Van. Ms. Logsdon did not observe the guide wire lying in the roadway. When she ran over the wire it lodged around her wheel causing the guide wire to tighten. When the guide wire tightened it raised the utility pole approximately 3ft off the ground and caused it to travel south at a high rate of speed into Jeffery Smith's abdomen.

Jeffery Smith was incapacitated and was transported by ambulance to Henderson Community Methodist Hospital.
