Click It or Ticket Enforcement Campaign
Date of News Release: 05/18/2009
(Henderson, Ky.) -- Today begins the annual Click It or Ticket enforcement campaign. This program runs through May 31, 2009. Our goal is to increase voluntary compliance with the primary seat belt law, child safety seat law, and the child booster seat law.
The primary seat belt law requires all passengers over 7 years of age to use a vehicle seat belt. The child safety seat law requires all children 40 inches in height and under be placed in a federally approved child safety seat. The child booster seat law requires all children between 40-50 inches tall and less than 7 years of age be in a booster seat with a lap and shoulder belt.
In 2007 seat belts were credited with saving an estimated 15,147 lives nationwide. Worn correctly, seat belts have been proven to reduce the risk of fatal injury to front-seat passenger car occupants by 45 percent and by 60 percent in pickups, SUVs, and minivans. Motorist can increase the odds of survival in a rollover crash in a light truck by nearly 80 percent by wearing a seat belt.
Please buckle up.
