Barricaded Subject in Green County

Date of News Release: 01/25/2009

(Columbia, KY) - On January 25, 2009 at approximately 1020 hours the Green County Sheriff's Department received a complaint of a domestic disturbance with possible shots fired. When officers arrived it was determined that shots had been fired and Rufus Clay Brown remained, alone, inside of the residence. Local officers and Kentucky State Police officers arrived at the scene and secured the area. During this time additional shots were fired inside of the residence and in the direction of officers. Rufus Clay Brown surrendered at 1338 hours, after approximately 3 hours of negotiations. Neither Brown nor law enforcement personnel received injuries during the stand off.

The Kentucky State Police was assisted at the scene by the Green County Sheriff's Office, Greensburg Police Department, Green County Constables, and Fire and Rescue Personnel.

Det. Israel Slinker charged Rufus Clay Brown with the following:

  • Wanton Endangerment 1st
  • Assault 4th Degree
  • Wanton Endangerment 1st - Police Officer
  • Criminal Mischief 1st
  • Criminal Mischief 3rd
