Armed Robbery at Collett's Grocery

(Hazard, Ky.) -- On December 29, 2009 at approximately 08:30 am Kentucky State Police in Hazard received a call from Leslie County Emergency Operations Center reference an armed robbery at Collett's Grocery in the Essie community of Leslie County.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the perpetrator entered the store armed with a handgun and pointed the weapon at a cashier and demanded money. The cashier complied with the demand and the suspect fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of currency and checks. The suspect was described as being a white male approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall with a medium build. He was last seen wearing a multi-colored coat, blue jeans, and a dark colored ski mask covering his face. He was seen leaving the parking lot of the store at a high rate of speed traveling West on Highway 406 in an older model dark colored S\10 Chevrolet pickup.
Leslie County Sheriff's Department, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement and State Police all patrolled the area, but were not able to locate the suspect or vehicle. Clayton Stamper.
