Attempted Arson in Letcher County

(Letcher, Ky.) -- On December 21, 2009 at approximately 06:00am Kentucky State Police received a call of a possible attempted arson at Mcauley's Country Store in the Kona Community of Letcher County. Letcher County Sheriff's Department and the Kentucky State Police responded to the scene.

Preliminary investigation indicates that someone had thrown an incendiary device through a window in attempt to cause a fire. The device extinguished itself and the arson attempt was unsuccessful. No one was injured in the incident and the investigation is continuing by Det. Randy Combs. The State Police is asking anyone with information to contact them at 606-435-6069 or 1-800-222-5555 (in the state of Kentucky only, does not work out of state) and you may remain anonymous.
