Letcher County Assault

(Hazard, Ky.) -- On 10/22/2009 at approximately 01:30 am Kentucky State Police received a call of an assault occurring at the residence of Thomas Bates in the Millstone Community of Letcher County.
Letcher County Sheriff's Department, Jenkins Police Department, EMS, and State Police responded to the call. Upon arrival preliminary investigation indicates the Mr. Bates had been assaulted allegedly with a knife by Darrell Perry, age 52 also of Millstone, Ky. Mr. Bates had received a laceration to the right cheek. During the investigation it was also determined that Alvena Sexton and Lydia Bentley had been assaulted by Martha Taulbee. Alvena Sexton had received a laceration to the left side of her neck. Lydia Bentley stated she had been assaulted with a blunt instrument. The three victims were all transported to the Whitesburg ARH where they were treated for their injuries and released.
No arrests have been made at this time and the case will be presented to the Letcher County Grand Jury. The investigation continues by Det. Gary Sandlin with the Kentucky State Police.
