Pursuit and Arrest in Perry County

(Chavies, Ky.) -- On Sunday, August 9, 2009 at approximately 10:00 AM, Ky State Police Post 13 in Hazard received a report of a suspicious vehicle in the Chavies community of Perry County. Trooper Ira Napier located the vehicle near the intersection of Barwick Road and KY Hwy 28. When Tpr. Napier attempted to contact the operator of the vehicle, it fled from the scene. Tpr. Napier began pursuing the vehicle. The vehicle, operated by 22 year old Gary Marvin Daniel of Panco, Ky., continued on Ky Hwy 28 before colliding with another vehicle. This vehicle was occupied by two adults and one small child. Mr. Daniel then fled the accident scene on foot. Troopers with the KY State Police along with Deputies with the Perry County Sheriff's Office searched the scene for approximately 3 hours before locating the subject in a river. Mr. Daniel was subsequently taken into custody. He is charged with Assault 1st degree, Fleeing and Evading 1st Degree, and Resisting Arrest along with numerous other traffic related offenses. Mr. Daniel was also wanted by other agencies in Kentucky at the time of his arrest.
