Update on Leslie County Murder Investigation

(Hazard, Ky.) -- Detectives with the Kentucky State Police Post 13 in Hazard have made an arrest in the Murder Investigation of Chad B. Muncy. On Tuesday, April 21, 2009 shortly before 9:30 A.M, 21 year old Chad B. Muncy was found murdered inside his home in the Mozelle community of Leslie County. The Kentucky State Police Post 13 in Hazard then started an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Mr. Muncy.

On April 28, 2009 Charles D. Watts was arrested on an unrelated Burglary charge in Leslie County and was lodged in the Clay County Detention Center. As leads continued to develop and the investigation progressed it became evident that Mr. Watts was a viable suspect in the Murder Investigation of Chad B. Muncy. Detective Chris Collins obtained an arrest warrant against Charles D. Watts for the murder of Chad B. Muncy. On Monday, June 08, 2009 at 1:23 P.M the warrant was served on Charles D. Watts at the Clay County Detention Center. Charles D. Watts has been lodged in the Clay County Detention Center since April 28, 2009 for the Burglary charge.

Detectives continue to investigate the murder of Mr. Kelly Johnson from Leslie County, as well. No charges have been filed in that case at this time. The investigations continue by Detective Chris Collins and Detective Clayton Stamper of the Kentucky State Police Post 13 in Hazard.

(Hazard, Ky.) -- A 21 year old Leslie County man was found dead inside a home in the Mozelle community of Leslie County shortly before 9:30 A.M. this morning. Troopers & Detectives from KSP Post 13 in Hazard along with the Leslie County Tran-star Ambulance Service responded to the scene and the victim was identified as Chad B. Muncy, 21 years of age and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Leslie County Coroner's office. The body of the victim has been sent to the State Medical Examiner's Office in Frankfort where an autopsy will be performed. Detective Chris Collins, with the Kentucky State Police Post 13 in Hazard is in charge of the investigation.
