Kentucky State Police Troopers Involved in Shooting

(Hazard, Ky.) -- On 05/09/09 Kentucky State Police Post 13 in Hazard received a call requesting a trooper to conduct a welfare check on Linda Sizemore on Big Spring Branch Road in the Mousie Community of Knott County.

Troopers Joel Abner and Randall Riley responded to the residence and contacted Ms. Sizemore along with Charles Edward Sizemore age 63 who also resided at the residence. During the investigation Charles Sizemore pulled a handgun on the troopers and gunfire was exchanged. Charles Edward Sizemore received fatal gunshot injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Knott County Coroner. Troopers Abner and Riley, both four year veterans with the state police, were not injured and are placed on Administrative leave per Kentucky State Police policy and procedure. The investigation is continuing by Lt. Jamie Stevens, Lt. Sean Welch and Lt. Claude Little.
