Assault and Robbery Investigation in Letcher County

(Hazard, Ky.) -- Kentucky State Police in Hazard are investigating the Assault and Robbery of a 38 year old Letcher County man. At 8:12 A.M. KSP Post 13 received a 911 call reporting David Collier of the Whitco community of Letcher County had been assaulted and robbed while walking along CSX Drive also in the Whitco community of Letcher County. The victim was walking along the roadway when he reported being approached by a man who was armed with a large metal pipe who immediately began hitting the victim in the head and demanding his money. The victim fell to the ground at which time the perpetrator forcibly took the victims wallet which contained an undetermined amount of U.S. currency. The perpetrator then fled the scene of the Robbery on foot and is described as being a white male 5'10" tall last seen wearing a green camouflage jacket, a ski mask and was wearing gloves. The victim was transported by the Letcher Ambulance Service to the Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital. Detective Randy Combs, U/686 is in charge of the investigation and no arrests have been made at this time.
