Knott County Death Investigation

(Hazard, Ky.)- On 03/24/09 Kentucky State Police Post 13 in Hazard received a call of an elderly man possibly deceased due to injuries sustained in a fire while trying to burn brush near his residence.

Preliminary investigation indicates that 83 year old Woodrow Gibson of Emmalena, Ky. was attempting to burn brush clearing off a garden location. The fire got out of control and Mr. Gibson's clothing caught fire while trying to extinguish the flames. The Knott County Coroner pronounced the victim deceased at the scene. No foul play is suspected and the investigation continues by Det. Chuck Bledsoe and Arson Investigator James Burnett.
