Shelby County Man Resisted Arrest

(Post 12 Frankfort) -- On Thursday, May 28, 2009 at 7:00 PM Trooper Hunter Martin was on Village Lane in Shelbyville, KY when he observed a wanted person. Tpr. Martin approached the accused James L. Shuck, age 23 of Shelbyville to confirm his identity. NCIC/LINK check revealed that James Shuck was wanted for Assault 4th, Criminal Trespass 1st, Criminal Mischief 3rd and Probation Violation.

Tpr. Martin placed Shuck under arrest and he resisted. Tpr. Martin utilized his taser which was ineffective. Shuck continued resisting arrest and was struck with an asp baton and pistol. The altercation continued and Shuck struck Tpr. Martin in the face. After a length struggle Tpr. Martin fired one shot at Shuck missing him. Shuck then fled on foot to a nearby apartment complex where he was later located.

Tpr. Martin notified Post 12 dispatcher that he had been assaulted. Local officer, deputies and other Troopers arrived and located Shuck inside an attic in one of the apartments. Tpr. Martin was taken to the Jewish Shelbyville Hospital with minor facial injuries, scrapes and bruises. He was treated and released.

James L. Shuck was also taken to the Jewish Shelbyville Hospital for treatment. He was lodged in the Shelbyville Detention Center and charged with Assault 3rd on a Police Officer, Fleeing and Evading 1st, Resisting Arrest and Burglary 2nd. Kentucky State Police were assisted by the Shelbyville Police Department, Shelby County Sheriff Department and Commercial Vehicle Enforcement. Other charges are pending and the investigation is continuing by Kentucky State Police.
