Trooper Island Specialty License Plate Photo Release

Date of Photo Release: 02/26/2009

(Frankfort, KY) - Tpr. Ron Turley, public affairs officer at Kentucky State Police Post 12 in Frankfort, recruited two lumberjacks (Derek Knutson (wearing green) & Brian Kilian (wearing red)) from the Stihl Timber Works Show to help display a new specialty license plate at the Lexington Sport, Boat and Recreation Show Feb. 5-8. Designed to raise funds for Trooper Island, KSP's free summer camp for disadvantaged boys and girls age 10-12, the plate costs $28.00 at the time of application plus $16.00 additional at time of pick up. The Ky. Dept. of Transportation requires 900 applications by Sept. 1, 2009 in order to approve production of the plate. Applications can be obtained from any state police post or downloaded from the KSP web site at http://www.kentuckystatepolice.org/pdf/Isl_lic_app.pdf. Trooper Island is financed entirely by donations, no public funds are used. Each year, the camp hosts approximately 700 children, providing good food, fresh air, recreation, guidance and structured, esteem-building activities designed to build good citizenship and positive relationships with law enforcement officers.
