Death Investigation in Pulaski County

(London, Ky.) -- On Thursday, July 16, 2009, at approximately 5:00 PM the Kentucky State Police, Post 11, in London was notified by the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office that a person was found deceased inside a vehicle in Lake Cumberland at the end of Slate Branch Road.

Upon arrival KSP Detective Doug Boyd, working with the Pulaski County Major Crimes Task Force and the Pulaski County Coroner's Office, began an investigation into the incident.

Pulaski County Coroner Richard New has identified the victim as Sampie Sparkman, 63, of Garrett, KY.

Mr. Sparkman had left Floyd County, KY on 05-15-2008 to visit family in Somerset, Pulaski County but did not arrive and had been report missing.

The cause of death is undetermined pending the outcome of an autopsy.

No foul play is suspected at this time.

Detective Boyd is the lead investigator into the incident and is working with the Pulaski County Major Crimes Task Force and the Pulaski County Coroner's Office.
