Injury Collision on I-75 in Rockcastle County

(London, Ky.) -- On Saturday, May 30, 2009, at 07:40 AM the Kentucky State Police, Post 11, in London was notified of a two vehicle traffic crash on I-75 at the 63 mile marker.

Upon arrival Trooper Coby Smith determined that a blue, 1999, Toyota, Corolla, operated by Giancarlo Froffi, 69, of Bell River, ON was southbound on I-75 when it crossed the grass median, entered the northbound lanes and struck a tractor/trailer.

Mr. Froffi was transported to the Rockcastle County Hospital and later flown to the University of Kentucky Medical Center for treatment of his injuries. Mr. Froffi stated to Trooper Smith that he has lost consciousness prior to leaving his lane of travel and could not remember what occurred in the crash.

The tractor/trailer, a blue, 2006, Peterbilt, operated by Patrick Scarpone, 43, of Wyoming, MN, was northbound when struck by the Toyota.

Both operators were seat belted and no alcohol and/or drug usage is suspected.

Trooper Smith is continuing the investigation and was assisted by Trooper Stacy Walker, the Rockcastle County Fire & Rescue and the Rockcastle EMS.
