Death Investigation in Laurel County

(London, Ky.) -- On Thursday, April 23, 2009, at 4:59 PM the Kentucky State Police, Post 11, in London was notified, by the Laurel County 911 Center, of the infant that was unresponsive at a residence on KY 552 in Laurel County, KY.

Upon arrival Trooper Steve Smallwood was informed that a 9 year old child was carrying the infant, tripped and dropped the infant.

Trooper Smallwood began an investigation into the incident.

The infant was flown to the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, KY for treatment.

On Sunday, April 26, 2009 the Kentucky State Police, Post 11, in London was notified, by the Fayette County Coroners Office, that the infant was pronounced dead at 8:58 AM.

No criminal charges are expected at this time pending the completion of the investigation.

The exact cause of death is pending the results of an autopsy.

Trooper Smallwood is continuing the investigation and was assisted by officers from the Kentucky State Police and personnel from the Laurel County EMS.
