Injury Traffic Crash Involving State Police Vehicle in Whitley County

(London, Ky.) -- On Thursday, April 09, 2009, at approximately 11:09 AM EDT the Kentucky State Police, Post 11, in London was notified of a two vehicle traffic crash with injury on Master Street in the city limits of Corbin.
Upon arrival Detective Mike Bowling determined that a white 1999 Chevrolet Monte Carlo driven by Travis Blevins, 27, of Corbin, was southbound on Master Street when he crossed the center lane and entered the left turn lane of northbound Master Street striking a 2004 Ford Crown Victoria.
The Ford Crown Victoria, an unmarked state police vehicle driven by Trooper Clyde Wells, 47, also of Corbin, was stopped in traffic in the left turn lane from Master Street at the junction of US 25W at the time of the crash.
Mr. Blevins, who was uninjured in the crash was arrested at the scene and charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Intoxicants First Offense, No Insurance, and Failure to Wear a Safety Belt. He was lodged in the Whitley County Detention Center.
Trooper Wells, who was belted, was treated and released at Baptist Regional Medical Center in Corbin.
Detective Bowling is continuing the investigation and was assisted at the scene by officers from the Kentucky State Police London and Harlan Posts, Corbin Police Department, and Corbin Fire and Rescue.
