One Killed in a Single Vehicle Collision on KY 38

(Highsplint, Ky.) -- On 12/09/2009 at 6:00 am, Kentucky State Police Post 10 Harlan responded to a single vehicle crash on KY 38 in the community of Highsplint in Harlan County. Vanessa Bishop, age 37 of Closplint, KY was traveling westbound on KY 38. Ms. Bishop was operating a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt when she hydroplaned and crossed the eastbound lane leaving the roadway and struck a tree with the right side of the vehicle. Ms. Bishop was extricated by Harlan County Rescue Squad and transported by Harlan EMS to Harlan ARH where she was pronounced dead. Also assisting at the scene were various coal miners.

This fatal crash is still under investigation by Trooper Ken Abner of Kentucky State Police Post 10 Harlan.
