Fatal Shooting Knox County

(Barbourville, Ky.) -- On 11/24/2009 at 1:49 pm, Kentucky State Police Post 10 Harlan responded to an accidental shooting at a residence in the community of Cannon in Knox County. The incident involved a 12 year old boy that was cleaning a shotgun when the weapon accidentally discharged, striking his nine year old sister while she was watching television. The nine year old girl was transported to Knox General Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Assisting with the investigation was Trooper Shane Jacobs and Trooper Jay Sowders.

This case is still under investigation by Detective Jason York of Kentucky State Police Post 10 Harlan.
