Fatal Crash in Bell County

(Meldrum, Ky.) -- On 5/03/09 at 7:40 p.m., Kentucky State Police Post 10 Harlan received a call about a fatal crash on Yellow Hill Road in the community of Meldrum, KY.

The single vehicle involved was a Yamaha dirt bike that was being operated by Barney Sampson age 44 of Middlesboro, KY. Mr. Sampson was traveling on Yellow Hill Road and lost control of the vehicle and overturned causing fatal injuries. Mr. Sampson was not wearing a helmet and alcohol is suspected in this fatal crash. Mr. Sampson was pronounced dead at the scene by Bell County Coroner Clyde Creech. This fatal crash is still under investigation by Trooper Tyson Lawson of Kentucky State Police Post 10 Harlan.
