Fatal Crash Knox County

(Barbourville, Ky.) - On 3-23-09 at 1:32 p.m. Kentucky State Police Post 10 Harlan responded to a single vehicle fatal crash that occurred seven miles north of Barbourville, KY on KY 229. The operator of the vehicle, John F. Mills age 77 of Pineville, KY was traveling south on KY 229 and lost control of his vehicle in a curve and ran off of the roadway over an embankment and overturned. Mr. Mills was not wearing a seatbelt and sustained multiple injuries and was flown from the scene to University of Kentucky Medical Center. A passenger, Mike Mays, age 55 of Pineville, KY was also not wearing a seatbelt and sustained multiple injuries and was flown from the scene to University of Kentucky Medical Center. Mr. Mills died as a result of his injuries sustained in the crash. This fatal crash is still under investigation by Trooper Jay Sowders of Kentucky State Police Post 10 Harlan.
