Accidental Shooting Investigation in Pike County

Date of News Release: 12/01/2008

(Pikeville, KY) - November 30, 2008 at approximately 1:00 A. M. Post 09 Troopers responded to a shooting complaint at 310 Pond Creek Road, Huddy, KY. Upon arrival Troopers determined 16 year old Raymond Christian Rice, a resident, had been shot in the head with a high powered rifle. Initial investigation indicates that another juvenile in the residence discharged the firearm. Detectives are still investigating the circumstances around the shooting trying to determine what exactly occurred. It is too early to state why the firearm discharged. Raymond Christian Rice was pronounced dead at the scene by Deputy Coroner Mike Hall at approximately 2:16 A.M. The body has been sent to the Kentucky State Medical Examiner's Office in Frankfort, Ky. for an autopsy. The case is under investigation by Detective Gary Sykes of the Kentucky State Police.
