Fatal Collision on Penny HWY in Pike County

(Pikeville, KY) - Kentucky State Police received a call of a two vehicle injury accident on Penny Hwy at approximately 1729 hours on Friday, November 28, 2008. Upon arrival it was discovered that Unit 1, a 1997 Chevrolet Pickup operated by Billy Ward was traveling south bound and crossed the center line, striking Unit 2, a 2005 Chevrolet Pickup operated by Johnny Spears, Jr. Alicia Caudill was a passenger in the vehicle operated by Billy Ward and was transported to Pikeville Medical Center where she was pronounced deceased by Coroner Russell Roberts. Ward was flown from the scene to St. Mary's Hospital in Huntington where he is being treated for his injuries. The operator and occupants of the 2005 Chevrolet Pickup were transported to Pikeville Medical Center where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries. This accident remains under investigation by Detective E. Crum, U/309. Kentucky State Police was assisted at the scene by Shelby Valley Fire, DHP Ambulance Service, Pike County Sheriffs Office, and Commercial Vehicle Enforcement.
