Fatal Collision on US HWY 23 in Pike County

Date of News Release: 02/26/2008

(Pikeville, KY) - Pikeville Post 9 received call from Hazard Post 13 advising a vehicle driving north on US HWY 23 in southbound lane at Pike/Letcher line. Betty Joe Randolph's vehicle hit Suzette Johnston's vehicle head on.

Betty Randolph was a missing elderly person from North Carolina. She was pronounced dead at the scene by Coroner Russell Roberts. Suzette Johnston was flown by MED flight to Cabell Huntington Hospital. Passenger Quiton Johnston was transported by DHP ambulance to Pikeville Medical Center and then flown to Holston Valley Hospital.

Assisted at the scene were Trooper Hamilton, Sgt Peppt, DHP Ambulance, shelby Valley Fire Department, Shelby Creek Rescue, Medflight and Lifenet Air Ambulance.

Next of kin notified by Lincoln County Sheriff Department in North Carolina. Case under investigation by Trooper Derek Sturgill.
