Armed Robbery Investigation and Arrest in Pike County

(Pikeville, KY) - On February 7, 2008 at 11:39 am EST Kentucky State Police Post 9- Pikeville received a call of an armed robbery at the US Bank in the Virgie Community of Pike County.

A male subject armed with a firearm entered the bank and demanded money. The suspect then fled the scene in a 90's model Chevrolet Impala with primered paint. He was described as a male wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black sunglasses and gray beard.

Kentucky Vehicle Enforcement Officer Jamie Rose observed a vehicle fitting the description at Shelbiana. KVE Officer Rose, Pikeville Police Department Officer Wes Babcock and Trooper Johnny Slone conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle on US 23 at Yorktown. The two occupants, James Chaney and Carl Lockhart were arrested without incident. Mr. Chaney, 64 years of age, and Mr. Lockhart, 50 years of age both of Lexington, KY, were both charged with Robbery 1st and lodged in the Pike County Detention Center.

An undisclosed amount of cash was discovered in the suspect vehicle and returned to the bank.

The incident remains under investigation by Kentucky State Police Detective Eddie Crum.
