Madison County Fatal Collision

Date of News Release: 06/16/2008

(Richmond, KY) - Danny W. Gastineau was traveling North on KY 627 (Boonesborough Road). Unit #1 was on the shoulder of the roadway at a private drive when the driver pulled out directly into the path of the oncoming Danny W. Gastineau's semi. Both vehicles burst into flames and were completely destroyed by fire. Danny W. Gastineau managed to escape his vehicle and was not injured, but the operator of Unit #1 was apparently killed upon impact. Madison County Fire and EMS responded to the scene and extinguished the fire. State DES and Madison County Emergency Management also responded to contain a large fuel spill and to begin cleanup operations. The operator of Unit #1 was pronounced dead at the scene by Madison County Coroner Jimmy Cornelison. The operator of Unit #1 has not been identified and will be taken to the State Medical Examiner's Office in Frankfort for autopsy and positive identification. The road remains closed at this time and crews are expected to remain at the scene throughout the night and early morning. The collision remains under investigation by KSP Accident Recontructionist Trooper Starlin Hacker.
