May 2008 Highway Safety Mobilization
Date of News Release: 05/16/2008
(Richmond, KY) - The Kentucky State Police will be partnering with other state and local law enforcement agencies in statewide highway safety mobilizations beginning May 19th and ending June 1st. This statewide initiative is a concerted effort to reduce injury and fatality rates across the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
The mobilization will be in conjunction with the national "Click it or Ticket" Campaign. The motoring public should expect to see increased law enforcement presence on Kentucky's roadways during this period.
Law enforcement agencies, using crash data, have identified areas of the state that have low safety belt usage rates and high crash locations. Saturation patrols and traffic safety checkpoints will be used extensively during this enforcement period.
The goal of this two-week enforcement period is to increase seat belt usage, enforce child safety seat violations and reduce motor vehicle injuries and fatalities.
The public is encouraged to report any unsafe operation of a motor vehicle by contacting the Kentucky State Police at 1-800-222-5555 or (859) 623-2404.
