Pedestrian Struck on I-24 in Christian County

Date of News Release: 12/12/2008

(Madisonville, KY) - Mark D. Ford was operating a 2000 Peterbilt tractor-trailer westbound on I-24 in the right-hand lane (slow lane). The tractor-trailer was empty. A pedestrian, Brian P. Gilmore, was running eastbound in the same lane. Mr. Ford began slowing his vehicle and merged into the left-hand lane. Mr. Gilmore then began running eastbound in the left-hand lane. Mr. Ford merged back into the right-hand lane and the shoulder only to have Mr. Gilmore due the same. Mr. Ford merged back into the right-hand lane at which time Mr. Gilmore leaped into the right side of the tractor-trailer. Mr. Gilmore was then struck by the rear axle of the trailer. Mr. Gilmore was transported by Air Evac to the Vanderbilt Medical Center for treatment. Mr. Ford was wearing a seat belt and was not injured. The crash remains under investigation by the Kentucky State Police.
