Criminal Arrest in Muhlenberg County

(Madisonville, KY) - On Thursday, November 20, 2008, at approximately 4:52 p.m., Trooper Jerry Knight responded to a reckless driving complaint on KY 81 in the limits of Bremen. A 1980 Chevrolet pickup truck had struck a fence and continued on. Trooper Knight located the vehicle in the parking lot of Nicholas's Corner in Bremen. Trooper Knight made contact with the driver, Roy A. Blakeman, and placed him under arrest. While enroute to the detention center, Mr. Blakeman began to strike his head against the screen of Trooper Knight's cruiser. Mr. Blakeman also began kicking the back door and window of Trooper Knight's cruiser. After issuing several verbal commands for Mr. Blakeman to stop were unsuccessful, Trooper Knight pulled over and issued a couple of short bursts of pepper spray to Mr. Blakeman. Mr. Blakeman then became compliant and was transported to the detention center. Mr. Blakeman was charged with the Leaving the Scene of an Accident, DUI 2nd Offense, Driving DUI Suspended License 1st Offense (Aggravated), Possession of Marijuana, No Insurance, Failure to Wear Seat Belt, Assault 3rd Degree (Police Officer) & Terroristic Threatening 3rd Degree and lodged in the Muhlenberg County Detention Center. Neither Mr. Blakeman nor Trooper Knight was injured.
