Stats From Post 2 For August 2008

(Madisonville, KY) - For the month of August 2008, Post 2 reports the following activity:
- Arrested 64 Drunken Drivers
- Issued a Total of 2,030 Citations
- Issued 769 Speeding Citations
- Issued 206 Seatbelt Citations
- Issued 20 Child Restraint Citations
- Issued 847 Courtesy Notices
- Investigated 96 Crashes
- Assisted 182 Stranded Motorists
- Answered 1,103 Calls For Service
- Opened 79 Criminal Cases
- Made 208 Criminal Arrests
**There was one (1) fatal crash reported in the Post 2 District in August 2008. One (1) person was killed as a result of the crash. One fatality crash occurred in Christian County. The victim was not wearing a seatbelt and alcohol was a suspected factor in the crash.
Through August 31, 2008, twenty-six (26) people have been killed in twenty-three (23) crashes in the Post 2 District. Eighteen (18) victims were not wearing seatbelts, five (5) victims were wearing seatbelts and three (3) victims were not wearing a helmet. Five (5) fatality crashes have involved the suspected use of alcohol.
Through August 31, 2007, thirty-three (33) people had been killed in thirty-two (32) crashes in the Post 2 District.
Citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free at 1-800-222-5555 (in the state of Kentucky only, does not work out of state). Callers will remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel and license number if possible.
Throughout the month, troopers from the Madisonville Kentucky State Police Post will conduct traffic safety checkpoints in the Post 2 District. At these checkpoints, troopers will be targeting impaired drivers, checking for properly restrained adults and children and observing for any other safety violations. Post 2 serves the following counties: Caldwell, Christian, Crittenden, Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Todd, and Webster.
**These statistics are still preliminary as KSP waits for all local law enforcement agencies throughout the state to report any crashes and fatalities that may have occurred in their areas.
