Stats From Post 2 For July 2008

(Madisonville, KY) - For the month of July 2008, Post 2 reports the following activity:

  • Arrested 47 Drunken Drivers
  • Issued a Total of 1,576 Citations
  • Issued 610 Speeding Citations
  • Issued 155 Seatbelt Citations
  • Issued 12 Child Restraint Citations
  • Issued 873 Courtesy Notices
  • Investigated 93 Crashes
  • Assisted 227 Stranded Motorists
  • Answered 1,276 Calls For Service
  • Opened 75 Criminal Cases
  • Made 178 Criminal Arrests

**There were five (5) fatal crashes reported in the Post 2 District in July 2008. Five (5) people were killed as a result of the crashes. Three single fatality crashes occurred in Hopkins County. One fatality crash occurred in Muhlenberg and Webster Counties. Two (2) victims were not wearing seatbelts, one (1) victim was wearing a seatbelt and two (2) victims were not wearing helmets.

Through July 31, 2008 twenty-five (25) people have been killed in twenty-two (22) crashes in the Post 2 District. Seventeen (17) victims were not wearing seatbelts, five (5) victims were wearing seatbelts and three (3) victims were not wearing a helmet. Four (4) fatality crashes have involved the suspected use of alcohol.

Through July 31, 2007, thirty (30) people had been killed in twenty-nine (29) crashes in the Post 2 District.

Citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free at 1-800-222-5555 (in the state of Kentucky only, does not work out of state). Callers will remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel and license number if possible.

Throughout the month, troopers from the Madisonville Kentucky State Police Post will conduct traffic safety checkpoints in the Post 2 District. At these checkpoints, troopers will be targeting impaired drivers, checking for properly restrained adults and children and observing for any other safety violations. Post 2 serves the following counties: Caldwell, Christian, Crittenden, Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Todd, and Webster.

**These statistics are still preliminary as KSP waits for all local law enforcement agencies throughout the state to report any crashes and fatalities that may have occurred in their areas.
