Shooting Investigation in Hopkinsville, KY

Hopkinsville, KY (Christian County) - The Kentucky State Police is currently investigating a shooting involving the Hopkinsville Police Department. On July 31, 2008, at approximately 12:38 a.m., HPD Captain Mary Holland attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle on East 17th Street in the limits of Hopkinsville. The vehicle fled the scene and a pursuit ensued. During the course of the pursuit, shots were fired. The suspect vehicle eventually traveled through a parking lot and struck a ditch.

An image of Andrew D. Ly, click here to enlarge in a new windowThe driver of the vehicle, Andrew D. Ly, age 21 of Hopkinsville, KY, was arrested by the Hopkinsville Police Department. Mr. Ly was charged with DUI 2nd Offense Aggravated, Fleeing/Evading Police 1st Degree and Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree. He was lodged in the Christian County Detention Center. HPD Officer Drew Deghetto has been placed on administrative duty per Hopkinsville Police Department policy. There were no injuries to any officers or the suspect as a result of the shooting. The investigation is continuing by the Kentucky State Police.
