Stats From Post 2 For June 2008

(Madisonville, KY) - For the month of June 2008, Post 2 reports the following activity:
- Arrested 31 Drunken Drivers
- Issued a Total of 1,872 Citations
- Issued 813 Speeding Citations
- Issued 214 Seatbelt Citations
- Issued 6 Child Restraint Citations
- Issued 780 Courtesy Notices
- Investigated 94 Crashes
- Assisted 240 Stranded Motorists
- Answered 1,220 Calls For Service
- Opened 82 Criminal Cases
- Made 138 Criminal Arrests
**There were three (3) fatal crashes reported in the Post 2 District in June 2008. Five (5) people were killed as a result of the crashes. Two single fatality crashes and one triple fatality crash occurred in Hopkins County. Three (3) victims were not wearing seatbelts and two (2) victims were wearing seatbelts.
Through June 30, 2008 twenty-one (21) people have been killed in eighteen (18) crashes in the Post 2 District. Fifteen (15) victims were not wearing seatbelts, five (5) victims were wearing seatbelts and one (1) victim was not wearing a helmet. Three (3) fatality crashes have involved the suspected use of alcohol.
Through June 30, 2007, twenty-five (25) people had been killed in twenty-five (25) crashes in the Post 2 District.
Citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free at 1-800-222-5555 (in the state of Kentucky only, does not work out of state). Callers will remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel and license number if possible.
Throughout the month, troopers from the Madisonville Kentucky State Police Post will conduct traffic safety checkpoints in the Post 2 District. At these checkpoints, troopers will be targeting impaired drivers, checking for properly restrained adults and children and observing for any other safety violations. Post 2 serves the following counties: Caldwell, Christian, Crittenden, Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Todd, and Webster.
**These statistics are still preliminary as KSP waits for all local law enforcement agencies throughout the state to report any crashes and fatalities that may have occurred in their areas.
