Stats From Post 2 For May 2008

(Madisonville, KY) - For the month of May 2008, Post 2 reports the following activity:

  • Arrested 42 Drunken Drivers
  • Issued a Total of 2,609 Citations
  • Issued 1,027 Speeding Citations
  • Issued 516 Seatbelt Citations
  • Issued 12 Child Restraint Citations
  • Issued 1,167 Courtesy Notices
  • Investigated 93 Crashes
  • Assisted 218 Stranded Motorists
  • Answered 1,249 Calls For Service
  • Opened 75 Criminal Cases
  • Made 132 Criminal Arrests

**There were three (3) fatal crashes reported in the Post 2 District in May 2008. Four (4) people were killed as a result of the crashes. Two single fatality crashes occurred in Muhlenberg County. One double fatality crash occurred in Caldwell County. Two (2) victims were not wearing seatbelts and two (2) victims were wearing seatbelts.

Through May 31, 2008 sixteen (16) people have been killed in fifteen (15) crashes in the Post 2 District. Twelve (12) victims were not wearing seatbelts, three (3) victims were wearing seatbelts and one (1) victim was not wearing a helmet. Three (3) fatality crashes have involved the suspected use of alcohol.

Through May 31, 2007, twenty-one (21) people had been killed in twenty-one (21) crashes in the Post 2 District.

Citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free at 1-800-222-5555 (in the state of Kentucky only, does not work out of state). Callers will remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel and license number if possible.

Throughout the month, troopers from the Madisonville Kentucky State Police Post will conduct traffic safety checkpoints in the Post 2 District. At these checkpoints, troopers will be targeting impaired drivers, checking for properly restrained adults and children and observing for any other safety violations. Post 2 serves the following counties: Caldwell, Christian, Crittenden, Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Todd, and Webster.

**These statistics are still preliminary as KSP waits for all local law enforcement agencies throughout the state to report any crashes and fatalities that may have occurred in their areas.
