Update to the Fatal Collision on KY 855 in Crittenden County

(Madisonville, KY) - An autopsy was performed this date (04/04/08) at the State Medical Examiner's Office in Madisonville, KY. The preliminary cause of death is apparent drowning. The investigation is continuing by the Kentucky State Police.

(Madisonville, KY) - Heather M. Hearod was operating a 2007 Dodge Charger southbound on KY 855 approximately 11 miles southwest of Marion. As her vehicle rounded a curve in the roadway, Ms. Hearod encountered high water over the roadway. She lost control of her vehicle in the high water and it was swept away. Ms. Hearod was able to get out of the vehicle and retrieve her daughter, Kate M. Hearod age 2, from the vehicle. During her struggle to get out of the water, Ms. Hearod and her daughter were separated. Ms. Hearod was able to make it to safety, but lost sight of her daughter. Crittenden County Rescue responded to the scene and located Kate Hearod. Both Ms. Hearod and her daughter were transported by ambulance to the Livingston County Hospital. At approximately 8:28 a.m. CST, Kate Hearod succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the Livingston County Hospital. The investigation is continuing by the Kentucky State Police.
