Injury Collision on Western Kentucky Parkway in Hopkins County

(Madisonville, KY) - Justin Kraus was operating a 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix westbound on the Western Kentucky Parkway at the 36 mile-marker during heavy rain. His vehicle hydro-planed and crossed the median into the eastbound lanes of travel. Mr. Kraus' vehicle initially came to rest facing north and blocking both eastbound lanes of travel. Orbie Hill was operating a 1999 Freightliner tractor-trailer eastbound on the Western Kentucky Parkway in the right lane (slow lane). The front bumper of the tractor-trailer struck the left side of Mr. Kraus' vehicle forcing it into a guardrail on the right shoulder of the roadway. Mr. Kraus' vehicle overturned and came to rest on its top still blocking both eastbound lanes of travel. The tractor-trailer came to a stop off the right shoulder of the roadway. Gwendolyn Nelson was operating a 1998 Mazda Protégé eastbound on the Western Kentucky Parkway in the right lane (slow lane). Ms. Nelson was unable to avoid Mr. Kraus' vehicle. The left, front bumper of Ms. Nelson's vehicle struck the right, front fender of Mr. Kraus' vehicle. Mr. Kraus' vehicle came to rest overturned in the right lane (slow lane) of the eastbound lanes. Ms. Nelson's vehicle came to rest off the right shoulder of the roadway. Mr. Kraus and Ms. Allen were transported by ambulance to the Regional Medical Center for treatment. Ms. Nelson and Ms. Shinault were transported by ambulance to the Regional Medical Center for treatment. No other injuries were reported.
