Stats From Post 2 For December 2007

(Madisonville, KY) - For the month of December 2007, Post 2 reports the following activity:

  • Arrested 41 Drunken Drivers
  • Issued a Total of 997 Citations
  • Issued 362 Speeding Citations
  • Issued 88 Seatbelt Citations
  • Issued 11 Child Restraint Citations
  • Issued 739 Courtesy Notices
  • Investigated 118 Crashes
  • Inspected 1,950 Vehicles
  • Assisted 156 Stranded Motorists
  • Answered 1,040 Calls For Service
  • Opened 52 Criminal Cases
  • Made 129 Criminal Arrests

**There were three (3) fatal crashes reported in the Post 2 District in December 2007. Three (3) people were killed as a result of the crashes. Single fatality crashes occurred in Christian, Crittenden and Muhlenberg Counties. One victim was not wearing a seatbelt, one victim was wearing a seatbelt and one victim was a pedestrian.

Through December 31, 2007, forty-five (45) people have been killed in forty-four (44) crashes in the Post 2 District. Twenty-five (25) victims were not wearing seatbelts, twelve (12) victims were wearing seatbelts, one (1) victim was not wearing a helmet, five (5) victims were wearing a helmet and two (2) victims were pedestrians.

Through December 31, 2006, forty-eight (48) people had been killed in forty (40) crashes in the Post 2 District.

Citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free at 1-800-222-5555 (in the state of Kentucky only, does not work out of state). Callers will remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel and license number if possible.

Throughout the month, troopers from the Madisonville Kentucky State Police Post will conduct traffic safety checkpoints in the Post 2 District. At these checkpoints, troopers will be targeting impaired drivers, checking for properly restrained adults and children and observing for any other safety violations. Post 2 serves the following counties: Caldwell, Christian, Crittenden, Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Todd, and Webster.

**These statistics are still preliminary as KSP waits for all local law enforcement agencies throughout the state to report any crashes and fatalities that may have occurred in their areas.
