Kentucky State Police Validates Status of Registered Sex Offenders

Date of News Release: 12/22/2008

(Hickory, KY) - Kentucky State Police has recently validated the addresses of numerous registered sex offenders in the Post One area. Over the past several weeks, Troopers and Detectives at Post One completed 71 validations which resulted in the opening of eight cases for offenders failing to comply with the registry. Most of the cases involve offenders failing to notify the registry after an address change. Post One Investigations Lieutenant, Janet Barnett, states that she anticipates even more validations to take place in the coming weeks.

This undertaking was made possible due to a federal grant program which was awarded to the Kentucky Sex Offender Registration Unit in Frankfort. According to the Kentucky Sex Offender Registry, there are currently 363 registered sex offenders in the Post One district which is comprised of Ballard, Calloway, Carlisle, Fulton, Graves, Hickman, Livingston, Lyon, Marshall, McCracken, and Trigg Counties. Of those registered, 86 are currently incarcerated in one of the two state correctional facilities in Lyon County.

The Kentucky Sex Offender Registry is available online at http://kspsor.state.ky.us/. Viewers can search by name, city, county, email address, or zip code.
