Collision with Injuries in Graves County
Date of News Release: 11/29/2008
(Mayfield, KY) - Kentucky State Police received a complaint of individuals spotlighting wildlife from a white Ford pickup in the vicinity of Westplains Road and Copperhill Road. Upon arrival, units were not able to locate the vehicle, but observed a dust trail on Copperhill Road. Trooper Fields and Deputy Prince, of the Graves County Sheriff's Office, followed the dust trail to Hopewell Road and proceeded North observing for the vehicle. An individual walking on Hopewell Road advised units that a white truck had passed him at a high rate of speed traveling North. Units observed taillights on Vastine Green Road, then observed the truck turning left onto Craver Road without signaling. Upon reaching the 800 Block of Craver Road, Trooper Fields observed the truck, which had left the right side of the roadway and struck a tree. The investigation revealed the truck had become airborne after topping a hill and landing in a ditch. The vehicle then traveled through the ditch for approximately 150 - 200 yards, where it hit a culvert, traveled across the driveway into another ditch and hit a tree. The passenger was transported to Western Baptist Hospital where he was admitted for his injuries.
The driver was not injured and was arrested and charged with Wanton Endangerment 1st, Failure to Signal, Failure to Wear Seatbelt, Reckless Driving, and Driving too Fast for Road Conditions. Kentucky State Police were assisted by the Graves County Sheriff's Office, Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife, and the Mayfield/Graves County EMS.
