Update to the Injury Collision on US 641 in Calloway County

(Mayfield, KY) - At 4:15 PM, 11-10-2008, William J. Spann turned himself into Trooper Trey Green at the Calloway County Jail. Mr. Spann admitted to being the operator of the vehicle causing the accident on US 641 on November 7th, 2008. Trooper Green subsequently arrested Mr. Spann and charged him with Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Possession of an Open Alcoholic Beverage in a Motor Vehicle, Failure of Owner to Maintain Required Insurance, 1st offense and 3 counts of felony Wanton Endangerment.

Date of News Release: 11/08/2008

(Mayfield, KY) - Unit 1 (Name is Unknown at this time) was traveling south on US 641 near Green Plains Road, when it attempted to pass a vehicle driven by Lawrence Murray, who was also traveling south. While passing Mr. Murray, Unit 1 struck another vehicle head-on which was traveling north, driven by Charles Grosse. The impact of the collision forced Mr. Grosse into the southbound lane where his vehicle was struck in the driver's side by Mr. Murray. After striking Mr. Grosse, Unit 1 overturned several times before coming to final rest on its side, just off the roadway. All occupants of Unit 1 fled the scene prior to Kentucky State Police arrival. Mr. Grosse was uninjured in the collision, while Mr. Murray was transported to Murray Calloway Hospital where he was treated and released. The investigation is continuing by Trooper Green and criminal charges are pending on the occupants of Unit 1. Trooper Green was assisted at the scene by Sergeant Ryan Dawson, Trooper Brian Duvall, Trooper Kyle Nall, Calloway County Sheriffs Office, Calloway County Fire and Rescue, Calloway County DES, and Murray-Calloway County EMS.
