County Official Arrested on Marijuana Charges

(Murray, KY) - The Kentucky State Police have charged a Calloway County man with cultivation of marijuana and other drug-related offenses. On Wednesday, September 3rd, Kentucky State Police were conducting marijuana eradication efforts in Calloway County. Aerial surveillance by the Governor's Marijuana Strike Force located suspected marijuana plants growing in a garden and field area on property located off Bailey Road. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the property belonged to Michael Garland, 39, who serves as the Calloway County Coroner. A search warrant executed on Garland's residence and property yielded the seizure of a total of eight (8) marijuana plants, a small amount of processed marijuana, numerous firearms and various items of drug paraphernalia. Kentucky State Police also seized an Arctic Cat ATV that was being utilized in the marijuana cultivation activities. Michael Garland was charged with the following offenses: (1) Cultivating Marijuana-5 or more plants; (2) Possession of Marijuana-Firearm Enhanced; and (3) Possession of Drug Paraphernalia-1st Offense-Firearm Enhanced. Mr. Garland was lodged in the Calloway County Jail, where he was released on bond. . In addition, charges are pending against Mrs. Tina M. Garland (spouse of Michael Garland) for Possession of Marijuana and Drug Paraphernalia. The investigation is continuing by the Kentucky State Police.
