4th of July Enforcement from KSP
Date of News Release: 07/02/2008
(Hickory, KY) - This Fourth of July holiday, Kentucky State Police wish to remind motorists to keep safe on Kentucky's roadways. This year, as in years past, troopers with the Mayfield Post will be out in force this three-day holiday weekend. Several enforcement details have been put in place during this holiday period including saturated patrols and traffic safety checkpoints. Troopers will be watching for impaired drivers who threaten the safety of themselves and others. As always, anyone who consumes alcohol during any July 4th celebration is reminded to utilize a designated driver to ensure that they make it home safely. Commander Nathan Kent of Post One highlights the fact that there have been 54 fewer lives lost on Kentucky roadways this year as compared to last year. "In our Post district this year we have seen four fewer traffic fatalities when compared to last year. These statistics, in part, show the dedication that our troopers have to highway safety", states Kent.
This weekend and in the future, travelers are reminded to wear their seatbelt, obey posted speed limits, and look closely for pedestrians when entering and exiting any public fireworks display. These practices are essential to the goal of Kentucky State Police to ensure that everyone has a safe Independence Day weekend.
