2008 Trooper Island Campers From Madisonville & Mayfield Posts
Date of News Release: 06/10/2008
(Hickory, KY) - During the week of June 2nd through June 6th, a total of fifty-eight (58) boys and girls from the Madisonville and Mayfield Post area spent a week at the Kentucky State Police Trooper Island Camp. Before leaving for the island, the campers were treated to a cookout at the Madisonville Post courtesy of Richard Gordon of Madisonville, KY.
During the week on the island, campers participated in many activities such as swimming, canoeing, archery, fishing and other outdoor activities. Trooper Island is located on Dale Hollow Lake and was established in 1965. The free summer camp is for underprivileged boys and girls ages 10 to 12 that may not have a chance to attend a summer camp. Each year approximately 700 campers attend the camp from across the state.
Trooper Island is a non-profit organization, which operates on private and business donations. If you would like to make a donation to Trooper Island, you may contact your local Kentucky State Police Post. Contributions are tax-deductible. Currently the Kentucky State Police are raffling a 2008 Ford Mustang GT Convertible (license # ORG0000633) with proceeds going to Trooper Island. Tickets may be purchased from any Kentucky State Police Post.
