Click It Or Ticket Memorial Day Holiday Enforcement
Date of News Release: 05/20/2008
(Hickory, KY) - This week, Kentucky State Police began the "Click It or Ticket" campaign which focuses efforts on seatbelt and child restraint enforcement and education. Kentucky State Police, Post 1 will be working aggressively to see that motorists utilize their seatbelts as well as child restraints for small children. This campaign will continue through June 1st, 2008. During this campaign's two week duration, Troopers will patrol areas which have shown a low percentage of seatbelt usage. Troopers will also conduct saturated patrols in which intensified speed and impaired driving enforcement will take place. "The decrease in fatal collisions in the Post 1 area is a direct result of the dedication that our Troopers give to highway safety everyday. Our efforts will continue in order to see these numbers continue to decline", says Captain Nathan Kent, Commander of Post 1. So far this year, Kentucky roadways as a whole have claimed the lives of 270 people. This is 46 less than the same time period last year. These numbers indicate that the primary seatbelt law which went into effect last year is yielding positive results. However, Kentucky continues to be near the bottom of the list in national seatbelt usage. That is why the "Click It or Ticket" campaign is important for the education and enforcement of the primary seatbelt law. During this holiday weekend and the days following, take that extra step to ensuring you and your passengers' safety by buckling up. It is the law and it will be enforced.
